The DLR Team

Team leader: Raechel French, Phd

Country: USA

What is our focus?

While DLR Group is an integrated design firm interested in how to effectively design innovative learning environments, our team consists of academic representatives from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the University of Arizona, Harvard University and educational representatives from the John Baker Children’s Center and the Texas Association of School Administrators. The diversity of our team is intentional as our focus is on a systems view of ILE design and implementation.

What interests are represented in our team?
Our team is particularly interested in affective learning outcomes, social justice and power dynamics within the learning environment, and inclusivity with a focus on the role of executive function and creating a sense of belonging/wellness for all (with emphasis on vulnerable populations).

What do we hope to get out of the Scoping Study?
We hope to identify clear directions and connections for completing future research. Schools in the USA face a large gap in research connecting the design of space with the experience and outcomes of students and with the rise of ILEs, this phase of inquiry will provide immediate benefits.

What links would we welcome?
Our goal is to make research applicable – any examples or experiences collaborating between research and practice are welcome. We would love to share how DLR Group applies research and integrates it into our design process. Helping manage the transition from old to new space types is also our focus – any success case studies or lessons-learned would be great to discuss.
